Hey Ya’ll!

Nice to meet you. I’m Ben.

Here’s a bit about me…

I come from an interesting mix of cultures and beliefs. Various members of my family are Protestant, Catholic, Jewish, Atheistic, Pantheist, and Evangelical.

I like baseball, Jim Carrey and Ben Stiller movies, long car rides, petting cats, the moments when I see eye-to-eye with others, and a quiet space to meditate.

Oh, and critical thought! Philosophy, psychology, neuroscience, and their related fields all intrigue me! I tend to stay away from olives, football, American politics, and recreational drugs (including alcohol).

My favorite quote is from Friedrich Nietzsche: “If you fight monsters, beware that you don’t become one. And if you gaze into the void, the void gazes back.”

Some of my personal accomplishments: Acceptance as a transfer student to my first-choice college (after bombing high school); learning how to be more sociable; being able to reduce my computer time at night, and instead, read; and crafting this website (even if it’s still in relatively early stages).

I suppose it goes without stating that, despite whatever condition I may have, I was able to power through school, and am proud of my AS in psychology, and BA in Human Development (concentrating in Holistic Development). But it doesn’t stop there!

My fondest memories date back to childhood. I would walk downstairs to my Mom’s office in the wee hours of the morning, not being able to sleep, upset and scared. Then, I’d lay down as she wrote, Bob Dylan playing, holiday lights on.

In my life, I’ve overcome many obstacles. A few years ago, I was in a much worse place than now. Today, I’m doing much better. The fight isn’t over, but its being won, so that makes me happy. On the 27th of December, 2015, I was fortunate enough to relate some of my life on Eric Clay’s Made of Clay radio show. Here is my interview.

  • Regarding health…
    • I don’t mind being leaned on to help people through their struggles, or those of their loved ones
    • I don’t mind just being someone to talk to, or at
    • I know that drug addiction a mental disease, not a criminal state-of-mind or moral defect
  • Regarding adding to the website…
    • Maybe you feel that an important subject was excluded
    • Or a vague piece of information merits clarification
    • Perhaps I need a more valid source for some information
  • Regarding toning down the website…
    • I may have (unintentionally) gone too far in touting supplements as mental health medications
    • There could be information that’s not needed
    • You could feeel that I foist my worldview on others too much

Feedback, negative, positive, or both, is highly valued! I’m doing my best to create a broad resource for people.
